Line Graph Maker

New

Make a line graph (line chart) online in seconds. Paste numbers from Excel, Google Sheets or a CSV, compare up to six lines, label them right on the graph, then download a sharp PNG or SVG or embed it on your site. Free, no sign-up, no watermark, and your data never leaves your browser.

Data

Paste cells from a spreadsheet. A header row names the lines. Leave a cell empty for a gap.

How to make a line graph

  1. Add your data. Put dates or labels in the first column and one column of numbers per line. Paste from Excel or Google Sheets, open a CSV file, or type rows such as Jan 120.
  2. Name it. Add a title that states the trend, and a subtitle with the units, source or time period.
  3. Pick what to highlight. Choose one line to show in color while the others turn gray, so readers see the main story first.
  4. Choose the look. Smooth or straight lines, markers, area fill, and a light, dark or transparent background. 16:9 fits slides, 1:1 and 4:5 fit social posts.
  5. Export. Download a PNG or SVG, copy the image straight into a document, or copy the embed code for your website.

Data you can paste

The first column holds the points along the bottom (months, dates, years). Every other column becomes a line. Columns can be separated by tabs (what spreadsheets copy), commas, semicolons or spaces.

Month, Desktop, Mobile, Tablet
Jan, 5200, 3900, 800
Feb, 5100, 4300, 790
Mar, 4950, 4800, 760
  • One number column makes a single-line graph. Two to six columns make a multi-line graph, with names taken from the header row.
  • Empty cells become gaps in the line instead of zeros.
  • Symbols such as $, € and % and thousands separators such as 1,250 are cleaned up automatically. Add units back with the Before numbers and After numbers fields.
  • Rows are drawn in the order you paste them. If your data runs newest first, set Order to Reversed.

When to use a line graph

A line graph shows how a value changes across an ordered sequence, usually time. The slope of the line makes rises, falls, peaks and turning points easy to spot, and several lines on one graph show how trends compare.

Your data Best chart
A value over many points in time Line graph
Two to six trends to compare over the same period Multi-line graph
Amounts for separate categories with no order Bar graph
A few time periods where each total matters, such as four quarters Bar graph
A total and how its parts change over time Stacked area chart

Tips for a clearer line graph

  • Label lines directly. A name at the end of each line is quicker to read than a legend readers have to match by color.
  • Keep it to a few lines. Past four or five lines, highlight the one that matters and gray out the rest.
  • Use even time steps. Mixing monthly and yearly points on one axis distorts the slope.
  • Zero is optional. Unlike bars, lines don't need the axis to start at zero. Fitting the axis to the data shows change more clearly; say so in the subtitle if the change is small.
  • Show gaps honestly. Leave missing values empty so the line breaks, rather than entering zero.
  • Put the point in the title. “Mobile overtook desktop in May” tells readers more than “Visits by device”.

Embed a line graph on your website

Click Embed and paste the code into any page, blog post or CMS that accepts HTML, including WordPress, Webflow, Ghost and Notion embeds. The graph stays sharp on every screen size, and readers can hover to see every line's value at each point.

The data and settings are stored in the link itself, after the # sign. Nothing is saved on our servers, so there is no account to create and no view limit.

Frequently asked questions

Is this line graph maker free?

Yes. Every feature is free, with no sign-up, no daily limit and no watermark. You can turn off the small xorbin.com credit before you download or embed.

Is a line graph the same as a line chart?

Yes. Line graph and line chart are two names for the same chart: points connected by a line, usually showing how a value changes over time.

How do I make a line graph with multiple lines?

Put the time periods in the first column and one column of numbers per line. Up to six lines are drawn, and a header row gives each line its name.

Is my data uploaded anywhere?

No. The graph is drawn in your browser. Share links and embed codes keep the data in the part of the URL after the # sign, which browsers never send to the server.

Does the y-axis of a line graph have to start at zero?

No. A line graph shows change, so zooming in on the range of the data is fine and often clearer. In Auto mode the tool starts at zero unless the values sit in a narrow band far from zero.

What happens if some values are missing?

Leave the cell empty. The line breaks at the gap instead of dropping to zero, so missing data is not mistaken for a real value.

How do I paste data from Excel or Google Sheets?

Select the cells, including the date or label column and a header row with the line names, copy them, and paste into the data box. Columns copied from a spreadsheet are separated by tabs, which the tool detects automatically.

Should I download PNG or SVG?

Use PNG at 2x for slides, documents and social posts. Use SVG when the graph will be printed or scaled, or when you want to edit it in a design tool such as Figma or Illustrator.

Can I edit my line graph later?

Yes. Copy the share link: it contains the data and every setting, so opening it later restores the graph exactly as you left it.
